Silhouette Photo Tips
What Kind of Photos Should I Submit?
We meticulously draw all our portraits by hand using the picture of the person's profile. This is why it is so important that you send a good quality photo for us to make your portrait as realistic and true to life as possible. We capture all the detail from the photos you send while adding our artistic style (we call it spice!) to your precious silhouette portrait.
Only ONE good photo for each portrait please. We can use multiple photos if one photo shows a better hair style than another but it is best to have just one photo as it helps to expedite the process and give you the best looking silhouette.
Tips for a great profile photograph to ensure a realistic final piece of art:
Stand at eye level with the subject. (Mom do not hover over the kiddo while taking your photo! Their heads will be larger than their necks!) Make sure their face is fully turned so you can only see one of their eyes.
Make sure the photo is showing the entire head and that nothing is cut off in the photo (ie. back or top of the head).
A closed mouth with a natural look is preferred as it is the classic silhouette look.
It's best to have the subject look straight forward so their neckline is natural. Have someone stand in front of them, holding up a toy or even some ice cream ;) .
Make sure the hair is exactly how you want it captured in the silhouette. If there is a section you do not like or a bump that bothers you it will be in the silhouette unless you let us know ahead of time.
Longer hair (below the shoulder) looks best pulled up into a cute pony. If you prefer longer hair down, please make sure it is pushed back behind the shoulders.
Photos need to be taken against a solid background or wall. We understand that is not always possible but please make sure there is nothing too busy in the background and that nothing is blurry.
Please send the highest quality photo you can. Most phones can capture very high quality photos If taken during the day in good natural lighting.
No edited/filtered photos please! If you have a photo that has been edited quality will be lost and it will not make for the best photo.
If you have questions on all of this we are here to help! Send us a quick email and we will help you get started.
